People Build Culture
So, here’s this big sloped street with a ton of old buildings and parks. We hear it used to be a big deal back in the 1800s, with all sorts of factories pulling power from Brewery Creek.
More recently, people moved here with some newfangled ideas on friends, fun, work and play. Then a few more came, and more after that. They built things, made old spaces new, started businesses, and remembered to have fun along the way.
Now, there’s a real neighbourhood here. Built by us, for us.
We wouldn’t have it any other way.
Like we say, Main Street is a pretty old place. Starting in 1888, a fellow decided it might be a good idea to dam Brewery Creek in order to supply power for his mill. Folks really liked that, and other mills and breweries sprung up all throughout the neighbourhood. Residents built houses and businesses, and raised their families in the new community.
See what happened? Someone had one tiny thought, and it grew until, voila — culture was born.
